I do not really need to or even want to keep on repeating the fact that we all love our teas and coffees in the morning to get the day started. And I’m not too sure about you but I have always wondered which one is the better to drink? Is tea healthier or does coffee provide the better health benefits?
Truth be told, both tea and coffee have their own benefits and drinking one or the other will depend on your own personal taste. One person might love coffee while another will hate that taste and prefer to drink tea instead and vice versa. But as I said, both drinks have their own benefits and I want to explain some of these very quickly.
First of all, it is very important to realize that tea has high levels of antioxidants. This helps the body to fight against inflammation and this is highly important in lowering the risk of heart disease and stroke. On top of that, as get older, we tend to forget things a lot quicker. Tea is supposed to fight against this and improve the function of our brain cells. The only issue that you have probably noticed is that tea tends to stain the teeth.
Similarly to tea, coffee is also high in antioxidants. This tends to provide long-term protection against common diseases that affect us at an older age. For example, the incidence of cancers such as liver cancer can be reduced if coffee is consumed on a regular basis. Coffee also provides protection against type 2 Diabetes and several cognitive diseases. Coffee has its own advantages but like Tea, there can be some disadvantages too. For example, coffee can be quite acidic so it can affect the digestive system.
As you can see there are several arguments for and against drinking both tea and coffee. So both will provide sufficient protection for your body in their own ways. But it will be quite difficult to decide on one over the other. For this reason, you should always choose the one that you like the taste of. The one that you actually like drinking.
A lot of us like nothing more than taking a sip of coffee when we wake up. Some of us prefer the incredibly rich taste while others prefer the way this can inject you with a much-needed energy boost. We love coffee so much that we might even have it a few times per day. The people that do that might even feel this addiction getting worse and may want to quit. I say do not do this because even if the caffeine can cause some addictive effects, there are plenty of benefits of drinking coffee. It can improve your health many different ways and I want to discuss some of these with you.
Energy Boost – Most of us have heard and even witnessed this benefit of drinking coffee. If you drink it in the morning, it will allow you to “wake up” and get on with your day. Coffee can also stimulate an increase in adrenaline, a bodily substance that can give you a boost in any activity. For example, if you drink coffee before working out, an increase in adrenaline will allow you to perform far better than you would have without the coffee.
Improved Cognitive Function – You might have heard about an energy-boosting effect but not many of us have heard about an improvement in memory and cognitive function of the body. This is all due to caffeine, which is a weak stimulant. This increases a person’s awareness.
Protection Against Cancer – No one would guess this one but coffee has high levels of quinines, natural antioxidants. This should provide some form of protection against many different types of cancers. After all, the body needs antioxidants to function properly.
Protection Against Diabetes and Liver Disease – Drinking coffee is known to improve the blood glucose control in type 2 Diabetes. On top of this, it also improves Liver function by increasing Liver enzymes. This may also provide some form of protection against Liver cancer.
Protection Against Cognitive Disease – As we get older, we often see our elderly relatives suffering from illnesses like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. The caffeine in coffee is the main reason to slow down the progression of a declining cognitive function and dementia.
All of the above points are actually facts backed up by recent scientific literature. Make sure you look into this a bit more and make sure that you look into the positive side of drinking coffee. Obviously you should not have too much of this but if drank in moderation alongside a balanced diet and a decent sleep every night, coffee can do wonders for your health in the long-run.
